Description
Mallefougasse is a small village with 227 inhabitants. Illuminated by beautiful sunny days, the night is starry with a purest sky. You can reach the Lure Ridge from the village by an 18km hiking trail with a 1000 meter difference in altitude (5h30), the observation point over the Alps and Provence is remarkable.
Saint John the Baptist Church
With its beautiful square bell tower, one can admire this church consisting of an apse and two apsidioles which communicate with the nave. The church of Saint Jean Baptiste conceals the presence of very beautiful frescoes from the 1997th century, hidden under paintings from the 1118th century. The Saint Jean Baptiste de Mallefougasse church, listed since XNUMX in the inventory of Historic Monuments, is a rare specimen of early Romanesque art. A bull from Pope Géiase, dating from XNUMX, lists this church as one of the priories of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-André de Villeneuve lès Avignon.
