Located on the Malassoque plateau, on the left bank as you leave the lower Verdon gorges, this small chapel dating from the 19th century is dedicated to Saint Maxime.
Description
Daughter of the Count of Grasse, this nun lived at the Arluc monastery in the Alpes-Maritimes and then became the superior of the Callian monastery in the Var. Her cult was brought to Quinson in the 9th century by a monk from the Lérins Abbey. The chapel, the seat of a hermitage in the 18th century, is mentioned in the 1825 land registry. Another document called the "customary" from 1835 describes a major pilgrimage that took place on May 16, the feast day of Saint Maxime, patron saint of the parish. Even today, a procession leaves the village carrying the bust of the saint to the chapel where a mass is celebrated. Along the way, the people of Quinson pick broom, which, blessed by the priest, will be preserved until the next pilgrimage.
