As early as 1400, Abbot Allibert noted the existence in Pompiery of ''a pious foundation which enjoys considerable income''!
Description
Around 1500 the same author says that the old oratory took on the proportions of a church and a presbytery was built for a resident priest.
During the Wars of Religion, the church and presbytery were destroyed. In 1600 a new chapel was built and soon enlarged, but it was not until 1656 that a priest was installed there.
In 1696 the vault collapsed, the church was closed to worship until the reconstruction of a new vault five years later. In 1751 it was noted that urgent work was needed...nothing was done and the bell tower collapsed in 1760, worship was prohibited there. Repairs were made and the church remained until 1874 when the bishop again threatened to close it if the church was not rebuilt. It was then abandoned, it fell into ruin, a new church was completed in 1876. The separate bell tower of the church, adjoining the presbytery, had been erected in 1841.
The church is under the title of Saint Anne whose feast day is celebrated on July 26.
