Parish Church of Sainte Marie Madeleine de Couloubroux

Until the end of the 18th century Couloubroux was a community in its own right with a castrum cited at the beginning of the 1683th century "castrum Collobroz". Located on the southern slope of the Col de Maure, on the banks of the Bès, the parish was attached to the diocese of Digne while Seyne was linked to Embrun. The parish church, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, was served by a cappelanus of Colobrosio, it was located above the current village where the cemetery is still located, at a place called la Vière. During his visit on May 1750, 1779, the bishop “went up to the church under the title of Mary Magdalene. A painting representing the crucifixion with the holy virgin and Mary Magdalene. An altar to Saint Stephen with a painting representing him. After which we went down from the said parish to the end of the said village where there is a chapel under the title of Notre dame d'Espérance. There are therefore two buildings, the first which is the parish church, at the top of the village, the other, a chapel, at the bottom. The parish church underwent major work in 1819 and was regularly maintained until the revolution; the Cassini map (1850) and the 1858 land register mention it. Then, despite frequent interventions by the municipality, it deteriorated during the XNUMXth century. In XNUMX Father Féraud still knew the two churches. A pastoral visit from XNUMX informs us that there still exists at the top of Couloubroux the old parish church which has been closed to worship for several years because of its state of deterioration. It was then that the population decided to transform the chapel located in the middle of the new village and which was used for meetings of penitents into a parish church.
