The origins of the archaeological site of Petra Castellana date back to the 11th or 12th century. In the Middle Ages, it was a fortified town founded by the Lords of Castellane.
Description
The city was gradually abandoned from the end of the 13th century; the inhabitants preferred to live in the village, the current location of Castellane. Ramparts, towers, church, agricultural terraces, everything is still visible in the Petra Castellana site.
