During this stroll between past and present, it is the Lauzon River which marks the border between Old Montlaux, whose ruins and encroaching forest you will discover, and the current village in the heart of Provence.
Description
Starting from the village of Montlaux, the path runs through fields and pastures. After crossing the Lauzon, the landscape becomes wilder and steeper, reaching the ruins of Vieux Montlaux. The return, more winding, is via a descent into the forest.
From the village, head towards Moulin d'Anaïs. You'll discover fields of aromatic plants and return to the Lauzon. After crossing the bridge, take the track on the right which leads you to old Montlaux. The old fortified village appears in the archives from the 13th century. Return to the village through the oak and pine woods towards Perussier.
After the Revolution, the population gradually abandoned the village in favor of the lands on the plain, previously owned by lords and religious leaders. Today, the commune of Montlaux is made up of several hamlets where agriculture and livestock farming are practiced.
