Family walk to the oldest known salt mining site in Europe, the Moriez salt water spring, which was first developed in the Neolithic period, around 5700 BC.
Description
Cross the bridge over the Ravin de Bouquet and take the path that leaves immediately after on the right to climb into the 3 Asses national forest. This path, marked in yellow, climbs approximately 600 m to the north, and has a 40 m difference in altitude. It leads to the salt water well and its fountain. The return is by the same route.
It is interesting to note that the salinity of these small underground water tables is explained by the geological formations they occupy: they are saline rocks dating from the Triassic period, that is to say -250 million years BC
