A discovery of the reforestation work carried out at the end of the 200th century on the initiative of forester Prosper Demontzey. The trail crosses an artificial forest that did not exist XNUMX years ago, sown and planted to combat erosion.

Description

A short detour is possible to discover the Saint Pancrace chapel. The return journey is via the hamlet of Haut Vernet and Demontzey Park.

Demontzey Park (1,220 m) - From the car park, go up to the right along the forest track closed by a barrier. At the intersection, continue straight ahead then take the path on the right at the first hairpin bend. It climbs in switchbacks through the forest to a wider path below a ridge. Follow it to the left, sometimes staying on the ridge, sometimes on the north slope, crossing several ravines and emerging at a crossroads. Go up to the right to reach a forest track. Take the path opposite and, after many switchbacks, rejoin the track a little higher up.
Follow it to the right. After a hairpin bend and then a crossing, it ends in a loop. Continue straight on the path, ignoring the side trails. Just before its end, descend to the left onto a path, cross two ravines, then emerge upstream of a clearing. Continue in the same direction, paying attention to the markings, and find the path a little further on. Descend along the left bank of the ravine and then into the ravine itself. The path then crosses to the right bank, then turns into a path to reach the hamlet of Haut Vernet.
Le Haut Vernet (1,300 m) - Turn left and pass the cemetery. Continue right and then straight on at the next two crossroads. The track descends through meadows, crosses the Auches ravine and continues into the forest.
In a wide right turn, go down a path on the left which joins Demontzey Park.
