Follow in the footsteps of a rich past! This loop will allow you to discover the history of the village and admire from its promontory this chapel dedicated to the evangelist St. Mark, patron saint of the parish.

Cette promenade est l'occasion de partir à la découverte d'édifices chargés d'histoire dont: le château d'Allemagne-en-Provence, la chapelle Saint-Marc, autour de laquelle, chaque année au printemps, se retrouvent les habitants du village pour une journée festive. En chemin on retrouve le tombeau d'un ancien baron mort ici au cours des guerres de religions.
C’est Bartel en 1640 qui qualifie l’édifice de très ancien petit sanctuaire (sacellum) dédié à saint Marc évangéliste, construit au sommet d’une colline. Puis Achard relate que non loin du village sur la cime d’une colline située à la droite en entrant dans le chemin d’Allemagne à Riez, est une Chapelle dédiée à St Marc, où les habitants se rendent en Roumavagi le jour de la Fête de ce Saint, leur patron. L’abbé Féraud reprend le même récit : "on trouve, sur le coteau de Saint-Marc, une chapelle dédiée à ce saint, qui est fort ancienne, et où les habitants se rendent en Roumavagi le 25 avril". L’enquête sur les lieux de culte du diocèse de Digne en 1899 confirme : chapelle rurale Saint-Marc sur le côteau de ce nom. Coutume séculaire sans autorisation écrite : messe deux fois par an par le curé le 25 avril et le lendemain ou surlendemain. Cette coutume perdure encore aujourd’hui le jour de la saint Marc le 25 avril.
Saint Mark is not only the patron saint of the parish, but also the titular of the parish church. This corresponds to the church of the castrum which was established during the 12th century. It took on the same title of the church which preceded it. Built on a promontory, 700 meters to the east of the village, the chapel of Saint-Marc, remodeled several times, presents, according to R. Collier, three chapels (which) must have succeeded one another before the current one: a quadrilobed aedicule, a chapel from the 11th century, another from the 12th or 13th century, taken from the previous one. Pre-Roman material was found on the platform which was arranged by a ditch and a dry stone wall which could date back to the medieval period. (Churches and Rural Chapels Daniel Thiery).
