First department labeled Bicycle Territory
The Alpes de Haute Provence region is particularly well-suited to cycle touring. Cycle through the Alpine passes of Ubaye and Val d'Allos, as well as the scenic routes of Haute-Provence and Verdon. From family outings to sporty itineraries, there are numerous cycling routes for all types of enthusiasts. There's bound to be one for you. Rediscover the joys of cycling with an electrically assisted bicycle (EAB). Several professionals in the department offer them for rental.

1st department labeled Bicycle Territory
Our department is the first department to be labeled a Cycling Territory by the French Cycling Tourism Federation. ! This label applies to the entire departmental territory and rewards the work carried out together in favor of the practice of cycling.

Passes and roads reserved for cyclists
Do you love cycling? Climb some of the most beautiful passes in the Alpes de Haute Provence in complete freedom!
With the operation “ cols et routes réservés aux cyclistes ", in the summer, some of our legendary passes are open to bicycles only on certain dates and times. Access is free, with no timing or ranking, no registration, and no set departure time.
- Lure Mountain (1826 m) - Saint-Etienne-les-Orgues - Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 15 p.m.
- Col de Félines (926 m) - Entrevaux - Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Col de Puimichel (809 m) - Wednesday July 8, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Departure from Malijai: 8 km ascent - 370 m elevation gain
- Col de Fontbelle (1,304 m) - Wednesday July 15, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Departure from Thoard: 11 km ascent - 600 m elevation gain then to Authon
- Col du Corobin (1,211 m) - Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Departure from Digne-les-Bains: 9 km ascent – 550 m elevation gain
- Col du Fanget (1459 m) - Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Departure from Seyne: 5 km ascent – 320 m elevation gain
- Col de Vars (2108 m) Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye - Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 13 p.m. - 5 km above the village of Saint-Paul.
- Col des Champs (2087 m) Colmars-les-Alpes - Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 13 p.m.
- Cycling along the Durance River - Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 15 p.m.
- Route des Clues de Barles - Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 15 p.m.
- Route des Crêtes (D23) La Palud-sur-Verdon - Friday, September 25, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 14 p.m.

Cycling tourism: the most beautiful routes
Voici une sélection d’itinérances incontournables pour pratiquer le cyclotourisme dans les Alpes de Haute Provence. Entre vallées, montagnes et villages, ces parcours offrent des expériences variées pour tous les amateurs de vélo.
Partez notamment sur The Durance by bike, un itinéraire qui longe la rivière entre paysages provençaux et villages typiques. Les Routes de la lavande vous emmènent sur de petites routes entre champs de lavande et villages. Pour rouler dans des espaces protégés, découvrez aussi Autour du Luberon et The Verdon Tour by bike.
Also join The Mediterranean by bike, une portion française de l’EuroVelo 8, qui relie les grands espaces méditerranéens et ses paysages ensoleillés. Et pour les cols alpins, la Route des Grandes Alpes à Vélo traverse également le département par la vallée de l'Ubaye.

Here are two cycling routes for exploring the department by bike. A gentle, accessible and scenic route follows the course of the Durance river, while the more challenging route takes you through the mountain passes of the Ubaye.
