Indeed, the Reserve concentrates more than 56% of the bird species of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department and more than 56% of the nesting bird species identified as threatened in the PACA region. These avifaunal wonders are often hidden in the tangle of reeds, hidden in the wild nature of the riparian forest or camouflaged in the gravel banks of the Durance. The Ornithological Reserve is an exceptional site made up of three artificial wetlands located in the territories of Château-Arnoux/Saint-Auban, Volonne, L'Escale, Malijai and Les Mées.
