At the edge of the RD 33 road, (presence of a sign) before arriving at the village of Angles, is this natural treasure which takes its name from the village of Barrême, in the heart of the Haute-Provence Geological Nature Reserve.

Description

It is always exceptional to observe a long and remarkable stratotype, that of the Barremian is in perfect condition!
The Barremian Stratotype was designated by Busnardo in 1963 during a conference on the Lower Cretaceous.
A Stratotype is a type stratum, an outcrop designated as the type of a geological stage, the standard for a layer of rock (usually soil).
They generally take the name of the place where the reference outcrop was discovered.
There are two types of stratotypes: unit stratotypes and boundary stratotypes.
The Unit Stratotype corresponds to an outcrop which is recognized by specialists as the type of a geological stage.
