The Sarteau pear, a fruit heritage of Haute-Bléone
This hardy pear is therefore well adapted to the local conditions. Orchards occupy the hillsides and farmland of the valley. La JavieThe old fruit trees bear witness to a long arboricultural tradition. The Sarteau pear trees thus contribute to the local rural landscape.
The Sarteau apple variety exists in two main traditional forms: the white variety and the red variety. The fruits display shades of yellow, light green, or red. Their appearance adds a unique touch to grazed orchards.
A pear to be enjoyed cooked
The Sarteau is primarily a cooking pear. Its texture and flavor are fully developed after cooking. For this reason, it has attracted the interest of confectioners in Provence, in particular... Digne-les-Bains or from Apt, who made candied fruit from them. In the past, families consumed these pears over a long period. Their late ripening allowed them to be preserved throughout the winter.
Like other old fruit varieties, its pear trees were subsequently neglected. A few enthusiasts have helped to preserve this heritage. La Javie et Draix are participating in its revaluation today.
