In theatre, the most accurate sound isn't necessarily the most realistic: there are countless ways to create the sound effects of a character drinking coffee. Adding a nuance of rhythm, timbre, or completely transposing the sound allows you to convey not only the action but also the character's state of mind, thoughts, or even the context in which they find themselves.
