Jean-Yves Fremaux, a now well-regarded figurative painter, was born in 1947 in Marcq-en-Baroeul, near Lille. A former doctor, he first distinguished himself for many years in the demanding art of watercolor.
Description
From this discipline, he retained a rare mastery of transparency, light and nuances, which still permeates all his work.
Now, using oil paints and a palette knife, the artist invites us on a journey. From the palaces of Venice to Roman squares, from the alleyways of Montmartre to the shores of Lake Annecy, he captures those fleeting moments of quiet happiness that often go unnoticed. The omnipresent architecture of the cities is merely a pretext: it serves to magnify the human presence. His figures, frequently female, become guides to an everyday life in which everyone can recognize themselves, a world of elegance, gentleness, and poetry.
A seasoned traveler, Jean-Yves Fremaux's paintings are nourished by encounters and atmospheres gleaned from near and far: Paris, Venice, Amsterdam… Everywhere, the grace of figures blends with the beauty of the surroundings. Where photography is often credited with the power to stop time, his work reminds us that painting, too, can capture the moment and reveal its fleeting emotion. With a luminous sensitivity, he captures the poetry of the world.
