New: La Forge has taken up residence in Fort de Seyne!
A nearly forgotten craft that our volunteer blacksmiths will be happy to introduce you to. A true skill...
Visit suitable for children.

Description

Demonstrations every Friday afternoon. Three demonstrations: 14 p.m., 15 p.m., and 15:45 p.m.

Discover the forge with a guided tour in the summer, or with a period demonstration, and all year round for large groups.

The iron takes shape under the blows of the blacksmith. A simple piece of metal transformed into a tool, a hinge, a horseshoe…
The place is easy to spot: a beautiful, recently renovated forge, made of grids and stones, filled with old tools and a huge period manual bellows.
Two gentlemen in blackened leather aprons and gloves work there.
We prepare the fire by burning the coal and anthracite using the bellows, and we beat the cherry red iron to 850°C on the large anvil. What comes out are pickaxe heads, rakes, saws, or farrier irons.
These tools bear witness to the glorious mule past of Seyne, which had 3 forges; road shoe, winter shoe, calf shoe, and mule shoe. This art, once essential to farmers, has been perpetuated in gestures and tools for centuries.

This visit is included in the price of the entrance ticket to the Fort (€6).
