Unique experience than that of Andy Goldsworthy, internationally recognized artist, who imagines a project combining contemporary art and safeguarding rural heritage on the protected territory of the Geopark of Haute-Provence, around Digne les Bains.

Description

As part of his global work Refuge d'art, installed in the heart of the Haute-Provence Geopark, Andy Goldsworthy has taken over the abandoned hamlet of La Forest, in the commune of Saint-Geniez.

Refuge d'Art is a single artwork designed by British artist Andy Goldsworthy in partnership with the Gassendi Museum and the Haute-Provence Geopark. This unique trail in Europe crosses 150 km of the Geopark's exceptional landscapes, uniquely combining contemporary art, hiking, and heritage. In each of these formerly abandoned locations, the artist created a specific artwork that is now part of the building. The artwork created in this hamlet of La Forest is a stone cavity lit by overhead light in place of the old church choir.
“La Forest is an extraordinary ruined village. (…) If the stone is reused or a new building rises on the site of the old one, new life emerges.” Andy Goldsworthy.
